No commentsMos Def-initely

Went to the Mos Def concert on Monday with my buddy Justin. Sickest concert. It was held at the Croatian Cultural Centre, on
commercial drive, near the Broadway skytrain station somewhere. Justin and I got there at just around 7:50PM. There was a fairly long line up but it moved superfast. One thing we noticed is that the security guards were checking for ID. It was a 19+ event, so that was pretty cool. Usually, concerts held at the Croatian Cultural Centre are all ages shows. So, this made it sweet, a crowd where you knew everybody’s age. The crowd was awesome. Some cute girls, not a lot, but the fact that I knew that they loved Mos Def made them all extra hot. The people that were there were all very friendly. Easy to get along with. An enjoyable environment for that kind of concert.
Once J and I got in, we noticed that the crowd wasn’t as large as we expected. I guess because we actually came out early to an event for once. J bought some drinks and we met some really cool girls who were really into Mos Def. Super rare. Anyways, that killed a lot of time and the show finally started. There were a few groups who opened up for the Mighty Mos. First up was some group that was so unforgettable that they aren’t even worth mentioning. They had some backup dancer who was a b-girl…or should I say b-boy. She looked like a man. Me and J thought she snuck up on the stage and just started dancing outta nowhere. But, in reality, she was actually their backup dancer. Halfway through the performance, I think the group performing told her to move to the back as we saw her standing in the corner. Anyways, the first group was abysmal and was a large waste of my time. Up next after them was Dyme Def. These guys were awesome! They were a group of 3 and according to DJ Flipout (who was hosting that night) they were the only independent group to be on the Billboard Top 100. After seeing them perform I could see why. The way they rhymed sometimes reminded me of Jurassic 5. Anyways, they were really good and if you want more information on them you can visit their MySpace page. They were really good. They got the crowd going and they had their own style which made them unique, unlike the other acts. I believe after Dyme Def, Illa Brown performed. He was alright. The way he rapped wasn’t quite my style and I didn’t really enjoy his performance that much. It didn’t help that he was cocky either. If you’re an underground and independent, do not get a cocky attitude. Even Mos Def isn’t cocky and he was bigger than all the opening acts put together. The final opening act was performed by a red1. He was the dude in the Canadian rap group Rascalz. Anyways, he only performed one song that got the song going, “Dreaded Fist”, which was originally a song by the Rascalz but I guess he calls it his own now? Anyways, I just wanted him off the stage. He is very talented rapper, but I just didn’t enjoy his shit. I wanted him off the stage. I started yelling “MOS DEF!” and to my surprise the people beside me were agreeing and yelling “MOS DEF!!!” as well. Red1 performed for an agonizing 1 hour plus. I don’t even know when he finished. When he finally got off the stage, I was so ready for Mos Def.
When Mos Def got on stage, he was awesome! He performed a whole bunch of new hits and a lot of old and familiar favourites. You had to be a big Mos Def fan though to enjoy all his stuff. He didn’t perform too many of his more familiar hits. He got the crowd going though and kept everybody cheery. His VanCity hat that he had on just made me love Mos Def even more. He definitely knows how to thank his fans, unlike Kanye (not that I care but fan appreciation is important!). Anyways, towards the end, someone turned on the lights, which is usually the queue to leave, and Mos kept performing. All in all it was a great concert and I’m glad I went.
I’ll post pictures of the event as soon as I can find any. I just happened to forget my camera. Fick.
No commentsMarie Digby, I Love You
Some of you may have heard of Marie Digby. Some of you probably have not. For those of you that don’t know, Marie Digby is most known for her You Tube performance of an acoustic cover version of Riahanna’s no. 1 hit “Umbrella”. This version of “Umbrella” was played on the radio station STAR 98.7 and was featured on the third season opening episode of the MTV show The Hills. She was also a guest star on Carson Daly’s last call performing her version of Umbrella in front of a live studio audience.
Now I don’t know about you guys, but I think she’s Uber hot. Half Japanese and half Irish-American, not to mention super talented, this girl has totally won my heart. I now bestow pictures of this beauty right here on adobroonline.com. Enjoy!

Tweleve Minutes Past Midnight
It’s exactly 12:12AM PST and I am still here stuck at school finishing up a Firewall assignment with my partner. We thought we’d be done by Wednesday. A few games of Guitar Hero III and trips to subway later….still here. Yep…I hope we finish by 1AM. Anyways, just thought I’d post something up real quick. I gotta quickly log into my Fedora box.
I’ll try and update more. Peace.

So Very Tired…
It’s 3:11AM PST and I just got home from work! They made me to a software upgrade on our production systems, and guess what? That’s right! It messed up. I ended up staying at work for an extra 3 hours. I’m going to show up an hour late and leave 2 hours early. I guess that sort of works in my favor. Had a pretty long ass day actually. 9:30AM, appointment in Vancouver. I just bussed it down there since Surrey is so far. Doctor didn’t even see me for more than 10 minutes. Guhhh…so much money spent on transit fare just to see the doctor for a few minutes…oh well.
Anyways, I think before I sleep, I’ll watch a few episodes of Death Note.
Here is the Simpsons version of Death Note by Space Coyote:

Google Picasa Gallery is UP
So, I finally found an alternative to Flickr, and it’s called Google Picasa. This has always been around, but I never got around to actually using it until now. It comes with 1GB of FREE storage space. That’s more than enough. There’s even free software that comes with it called Picasa2 that helps you organize all the photos on your computer. The software allows you to upload web albums. I believe that the number of albums you can have is unlimited, as long as you have the space.
I found a WordPress plugin that allows you to share your photos on your blog here. I got this version because I’m using PHP4 and I don’t know how to update (too lazy to find out). For all of you with PHP5 there is a version available here. This plugin also has a built in Lightbox2 plugin feature. So, if you have the Lightbox plugin activated, you’ll need to deactivate it in order to get kPicasa to work.
If anybody is interested here are the instructions on how I installed it:
1) Download the plugin here
2) Extract the file to your /wp-content/plugins folder
3) Activate the plugin under your “Plugins” menu
4) Create a static page or post with the following keywords only: “KPICASA_GALLERY(YourPicasaUsername)” (without the quotes)
5) Enjoy!
Oohh make sure that you have albums created on Picasa or else the plugin will give you an ugly error message because it can’t find any albums.
No commentsFinally Time to Update!
Oh man…sorry for the lack of updates. I finally had time to write on this blog.
First things first, reason I stopped updating is because I went over my limit at Flickr, and I realized that the free account only allows you to have 3 albums. That’s pretty lame. I’m looking for a good alternative. So far, I only know of Photobucket and Shutterfly. I don’t know of any others. I might just go back to good old fashioned facebook and link from there. If anybody can suggest a few that would be great, that way I can update my gallery and hopefully add extra photos on this bad boy.
Anyways, been really busy with school. I started my course at BCIT COMP 8006. It’s been fun. Keeps me busy when I have free time though. I was at BCIT until 3:30AM on Friday night. That kinda ruined my weekend. I pulled an all nighter finishing up my Linux Firewall script. Didn’t sleep until 5PM on that day, but luckily when I handed it in the instructor looked impressed (Let’s hope he still is after reading it).
Anyways, it’s late. Gonna watch a few more episodes of Death Note on Stage6 and then call it a night.
Peace.
